School History
Chinesewise School was established in 2001. The school is an institute which specialises in experimentally based teaching Chinese as a foreign language, teaching Chinese in Mandarin and simplified characters as well as promoting Chinese culture and wisdom. The school is situated in the South of London in England, has convenient transportation and beautiful surroundings.
From the beginning, Chinesewise School was known as a unique organisation, with a clear mission and focused in an overall sound structure and good quality control on the management, which leads to a new path of Chinese education in UK; especially design and use a set of teaching plans and fun learning materials according to the needs of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, which created a brand new Chinesewise Teaching Method for the time of Chinese education.
In the past 8 years, all members of Chinesewise School including teachers, students and parents, worked together to persevere fun learning, effectiveness and good quality of the education guiding principle. The school also provided a lot of students with a relevant Chinese foundation, ensuring them to achieve excellent results in from the GCSE, A Level and HSK exams each year, highly appraised by many. At the same time, the school was promoting Chinese culture, as well as organising students in for red packet designing, chess and writing competitions; performing singing, music, dancing, martial arts and drama; taking part in many local charity activities and the racial equality carnival parade; also holding New Year celebrations which invited the members of mainstream schools and local Chinese associations.
Up until now, the Chinesewise School has Chinese language classes for junior, GCSE, A Level in UK and HSK tuition, there are individual or small group tuitions as well, the number of students is increasing each year.
The development of Chinesewise School was supported by many people from the local government, mainstream schools and Chinese communities; it is also highly valued by the local Mayors and MPs. Also assisted and cared for by many officials from all levels of the Chinese Embassy; plus the attention from the State of Overseas Chinese Affair Office, as well as the regards from the officials of many local offices.
Starting from 2005, Chinesewise School was encouraged by the State of Overseas Chinese Affair Office of China, organised summer camp for students to go to the appointed Chinese education bases which are always well equipped and have a good combination of experienced team of staff. The courses of the summer camp are excellent, praised by everyone, and the participants always benefited tremendously.
The aims of the Chinesewise School for the future are is to continue to practise with racial equality, to build a good relationship with the local society, to promote the valuable and Chinese culture and wisdom, and at the same time to study, examine, refine, analyse, develop and promote more up to date and practical methods for teaching Chinese as a foreign language; to train teachers and raise the standard and efficiency, keep up with the demand, serve many more people who are interested in the Chinese language and culture, and as always make greater contribution to the Chinese education of the world.
博文学苑创办于2001年，是个专门研究华文作为外语教学，以普通话简体字教授华文并传播中华民族优秀文化与智慧的实验园地，位于英国伦敦的南部，交通方便，环境优美。
博 文学苑自成立以来就一直以立意新颖，目标明确，在经营方面注重合理的整体规划及质量管理而闻名，领导着英国华文教育的新潮流；尤其是根据华文作为外语教学 的特殊情况而设计采用相应的教学计划以及配套的寓教于乐的教材教具，为适应华文教育新时代的需求而创作并不断完善的一套崭新博文教学方法。
在 过去的八年间，除了宣传中华文化，组织学生参加红包设计、象棋和作文比赛，进行各种唱歌、音乐、民族舞蹈、功夫和话剧表演，参与本地各种慈善活动和种族平 等狂欢大游行，并主办包括主流学校以及本地华人团体的新年联欢会、公开日等等之外，博文学苑全体师生家长努力合作，坚持寓教于乐、讲求效率、质量第一的教 学方针，已经为一批又一批的学生打下了相当的华文基础，在每年的中学会考GCSE、高等程度会考A Level 和 汉语水平考试HSK中取得的成绩优异，得到了众多的良好评价。
如今，博文学苑已开设有英国的小学、初中及高中等华文课程，还有汉语水平考试辅导班，以及个人或小组补习班，学生人数逐年增加。
博文学苑的成长，得到了本地政府、主流社会和华人社团的支持，受到本地市长和议员的充分肯定，也得到中国驻英大使馆历届各级官员们的直接协助和多方关怀，还有国内各地方侨办负责人的支持，更有国侨办领导人的关照。
从2005年开始，博文学苑响应中国国务院侨办的号召，每年都组织学生到由国侨办所选定的条件优越经验丰富的华文教育基地，举行特别策划的夏令营活动，教学效果有口皆碑，参与者得益非凡。
博 文学苑将来的目标是继续对所有的成员实行种族平等原则，与本地社区保持良好关系，宣传中华民族优秀文化与智慧，与此同时不断借鉴研究、实验整理、总结设计 并推广更多适时实用的华文作为外语教学方法，培训教师，提高教学水平和效率，与时共进，为更多热爱华文和中华文化的人士服务，为世界华文教育作出更大的贡 献。
School Founder
The founder of the school is the Headteacher Ms. Vivien Fu (符少苑), speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
Hainan Wenchang is her origin. She grew up in Guangxi. Ms. Fu Studied Journalism in university, after she graduated, she moved to Guangzhou to join her family. She worked first as a teacher in former Guangdong Radio and TV School, then as a reporter in Guangdong TV Station, until 1989, she moved to London in the UK.
In 1992, Ms. Fu was introduced to Ming Tak Chinese School, although there was a chance to work in a Chinese TV company (the former CNE, now Phoenix CNE), she was still teaching part time in the school on Saturdays.
As she was very enthusiastic, worked hard and produced good results, Ms. Fu was appointed to be the Headteacher of Ming Tak. During that the time, she was constantly taking training courses, and at the same time she joined the Education Committee in of UKFCS (the UK Federation of Chinese Schools), took part in syllabus studying, textbook editing and teaching material production. She was also involved in organise the UKFCS teacher training conferences and hosted workshops of many topics, including teaching, planning and management. Later on, she joined UKFCS Executive Committee and became the Vice President, and began to study Chinese education as a whole while focusing on different Chines
e schools’ management formats, course plans and selections of materials.
Apart from teaching Chinese language, Ms. Fu is also actively involved in Chinese culture activities and has voluntarily devoted a lot of time and effort into taking part in cultural performances, fund raising events, dragon boat festivals and plus helping to edit the UKFCS newsletter etc.
In 1999, Ms. Fu‘s achievements were recognised in the higher levels and she was given a hard earned recommendation by the UK Chinese Embassy and was invited for the 50th National Day celebration in China as a successful new emigrant.
In 2000, Ms. Fu was representing the UKFCS and attended the Overseas Chinese Education Conference in Shanghai where she exchanged experiences and views and also opened up to the world stage of Chinese education.
In 2001, Ms. Fu decided to set up the Chinesewise School, try a brand new teaching plan, and a set of arrangements which suit the present and future demands of Chinese education. She aimed to create and use the Chinesewise Teaching Method and fun learning materials. This was a creative idea, clearly aimed to raise the quality and effectiveness of teaching Chinese in general. She was determined to lead the trend of Chinese education in the UK.
For many years, Ms. Fu trained many teachers in the Chinesewise School with her experience and created method. She also edited and produced many teaching materials to reduce part time teacher’s burdens to ensure the quality and effectiveness.
At the moment, some of those the materials have had already been successfully tested and have been proven to be thoroughly enjoyed by the teachers and students, and they are now preparing for mass production to provide to the public.
Because of the effective teaching, students of Chinesewise School achieved many good results in the GCSE and A Level exams in the Coombe Girls School’s exam centre. Therefore Ms. Fu was recruited by that school until now, so she was given the opportunity to find out more about how Chinese education works in mainstream schools in UK.
At the end of 2004, Ms. Fu as a Headteacher was recommended by the UK Chinese Embassy again to attend the World’s Chinese Education Conference in Guangzhou. After the meeting, she started to organise China Summer Camps for the students every year with the encouragement from the Overseas Chinese Office of the State Council, it has become a regular event placed in the school calendar. At the same time, she has developed a good relationship with many selected Chinese education base, Ms. Fu’s vision now on the higher level.
In November 2006, Ms. Fu was invited attend the Chinese Education Conference organised by the All Party’s Group in the House of Common, and she made a speech regarding to how to encourage mainstream schools to teach Chinese, to recognise the existing Chinese school’s contribution and to support and develop the human resources of the Chinese schools. She expressed her point of view and gave suggestions, attracted media’s attention and was noted by the chairperson, hosting MP and Education Department officer.
In 2007, Ms. Fu received an award for being an outstanding Teacher from the UK Chinese Teacher’s Day celebration organised by UKCAP (UK Association for the Promotion of Chinese Education). Until now, Ms. Vivien Fu already has 16 years of teaching experience, and still carries on teaching in order to gain the first handed information and test the Chinesewise Teaching Method and materials personally.
In one word, people who know her would say that Ms. Fu is a modest but outstanding teacher, down to earth Headteacher, creative designer for the method of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, enthusiastic Chinese culture promoter, and contributes a tremendous to Chinese education and promoting Chinese culture.
学校创办人是校长符少苑女士，操流利的普通话、广东话和英语。
祖籍海南文昌，生长于广西。大学时攻读新闻专业，毕业后回到广州与家人团聚。先为原广东省广播电视学校讲师，后任广东电视台记者，至1989年移居英国伦敦。
1992年符少苑女士被推荐到明德中文学校任教，后来虽有机会再度进入中文电视台（原为欧洲东方卫视，后为凤凰卫视欧洲台）工作，周末仍坚持在中文学校兼职。
由于热心教学，工作认真，成绩显著，符少苑女士继而被任命为该校校长。任职期间，她不断进修，同时参与了英国中文学校联会教育委员会的教学大纲研讨、教材修改和教具研制工作，参与了组织联会的师资培训研讨会，并在会上主持过多项专题座谈，包括教学、计划及管理等方面。后来，曾一度担任联会的理事及副会长职务，并由此开始宏观地研究英国华文教育的整体，着重在中文学校管理模式、教学课程计划、以及教材教具的选用。
除了华文教育的具体工作以外，对于宣传中华文化，符少苑女士也总是积极参与，尽心尽力，不计报酬地贡献自己的时间和才能，包括：主持文艺汇演、筹款晚会、龙舟同乐日宣传工作，以及主编联会的会讯等。
1999年符少苑女士的工作成绩首次得到了高度的承认，被中国驻英大使馆作为成功的新移民推荐回国参加五十周年国庆。
2000年符少苑女士作为副会长代表联会到上海参加海外华文教育研讨会。她在会上讲述自己的经验与观点，也对世界华文教育工作情况有了初步认识。
2001年符少苑女士主持创办了博文学苑，试行崭新的教学方案，一套为适应华文教育新时代需求而创作的教学计划，使用根据华文作为外语教学的特殊情况而设计的博文教学方法以及采用配套的寓教于乐的教材教具，立意新颖，目标明确，在经营方面注重合理的整体规划，旨在提高教学质量与效率，解决中文学校普遍存在的问题，领导英国华文教育的新潮流。
多年来，符少苑女士以她自己丰富的经验和对教学工作的独特见解，在博文学苑培训了不少老师，并不断改编制作配套教材教具，以减轻兼职教师的压力，确保教学质量与效率。
目前，符少苑女士所研制的部分教材教具已经试用成功，深受老师和学生们的喜爱，正待进一步完善并投入生产，供更广泛的使用。
由于教导有方，博文学苑的学生连年在可慕女子学校（Coombe Girls School）考试中心参加中学会考 GCSE、高等程度会考A Level考试都取得优秀成绩，2004年符少苑女士被该校招聘，负责开展该校中文科教学工作至今，因此而深入了解到英国主流学校华文教育的具体情况。
2004年底，符少苑女士作为校长再度被中国驻英大使馆推荐回国参加在广州召开的世界华文教育研讨会。会后，响应国务院侨办的号召，开始每年都组织学生到中国去举行特别策划的夏令营活动；同时与多个华文教育基地合作，把博文学苑的教育研究工作提升到了一个更新的的高度。
2006年11月，符少苑女士应邀参 加了全英跨党派会议英国国会下议院举办的中文教育研讨会，并在会议上作了发言，就如何引导主流学校开展华文教育、承认中文学校对英国教育的贡献而从中综合 开发教师资源，陈述了自己的看法，也提出了一些建议，引起了媒体的注意，也得到会议主持、国会议员及教育部主流学校外语策略主管的重视。
2007年在英国华文教师节庆祝会上，符少苑女士接受了英国中文教育促进会授予的优秀教师称号。至今，已有十六年教龄的符少苑女士仍然坚持亲自任教，以掌握教学研究的第一手材料，并对博文教学方法和所研制的教材教具进行试验。
总而言之，了解她的人都会公认，符少苑女士是一位平易近人的优秀教师，脚踏实地的校长，眼光独到的华文作为外语教学方法设计师，推广中华文化的热心人，对华文教育和中华文化传播都作了一定的贡献。
